Let's Know about Earphone's Jack..

The audio jack is the tip of the earphone cable which goes into the device. It is the receiver of audio signals which are further transmitted to the listener. The tip has various functions depending on the type. The use and functionality of audio jack are defined by the number of rings on the jack.

Earphone's Jack with One ring :

This type of audio jack is the simplest one. They have only one ring on the shank. This ring divides it into two parts, namely speakers (earphones) and the sleeve. A single ringed audio jack provide Mono-audio. A single channel source is used to produce sound in this type. Both of the earphones replicate the sound without any stereo effect.

Earphone's Jack with Two rings :

The jack with two rings on the shank offers a stereo audio experience
These rings bifurcate the shank into three parts, namely right, left and the sleeve. The sounds produced in the left and the right earphones have time differences for soundwaves. Thus, the listener gets an impression of stereo sound due to phase cancellation produced by the stereo audio.

Earphone's Jack with Three rings :

The three-ringed audio jacks are the most advanced ones. Most of the devices nowadays come equipped with them. The shank of the jack is divided into four segments by the rings. The third ring is added for the microphone connectivity while the first three being the left, right and sleeve.
